AZKALS = Victorious

The Philippine National Football Team popularly known with unique moniker "AZKALS" (166) massacred higher ranked (135,during the match time) Nepal's Himalayan Tigers, 4-0, last Oct.11 ,2011. The Azkals just finished Long Teng Cup, finishing second (improving from last year's third place).The Azkals hoped to rebound from a friendly with Singapore losing 2-0. During the match in Rizal memorial Stadium, Phil Younghusband scored two goals during the game, while his brother James Younghusband and Matthew Hartmann delivering his maiden goal for the Philippines. Notable players were outstanding defenders Gier, Cagara, Lucena, Jonsson, skipper Borromeo and GK Etheridge. After the friendly, Azkals' FIFA ranking soared eight more spaces moving from 166 to 158.

Early Christmas Gift to the Azkals and it's fans with Azkals friendly vs LA Galaxy, an American football team lead by David Beckham, this Dec. 3 (Saturday) 7:30 p.m. at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.The Nepal friendly was supposedly the last game of the year but since LA Galaxy was having a three-nation tour it prospected to try out the Philippine Football team. On Jan. 4- 7, CF Real Madrid will also have an exhibition match against the Azkals.

   

Azkals' skipper Aly Borromeo, injured his ACL which will lead the teams captain unable to participate for atleast five months. Chieffy Caligdong, the team's vice-captain will probably be tapped to be the team's temporary captain. Angel Guirado's older brother, Juan Luis " Juani" Guirado, is set to be arriving in the Philippines to try-out for Borromeo's position.
